The Mac Attack turned 1 month old yesterday!
So, what's our little guy up to these days?Well he's rolling over, sitting up, has 6 teeth, said his first word (which was "momma" by the way) and actually took his first steps this morning.
Ha.
Seriously, he's like most of his newborn pals. He's eating, sleeping, peeing and pooping a lot.
He eats about every 3 hours during the day and goes about 3.5-4 hours at night.
From the time he was 2-3 weeks, I think he went through a growth spurt and was hungry little guy. He ate every 2-2.5 hours, which was VERY hard on me. I was spoiled early with the 3 hour feedings but hopefully we're back on track and cruising on the 3 hour train now.
A day in the life of Mac looks something like this at 1 month:
7:30am : First feeding of the day
8:00am : Nap for about 1.5 hours
10:30am: Nurse
11:15am should be napping but he fights this nap the most of any. We're normally eating lunch with Josh so this nap is skipped over on most days and usually ends in an overstimulated baby and a screaming car ride back home after lunch for his 1pm feeding. I love lunch with my hubby THAT much!
1:30pm: Nurse
2:00pm: Nap for about 2.5 hours
4:30pm: Nurse
6:30pm: Nurse - we move into the 2-2.5 hour feedings at this point to start "stockpiling" for the night.
7:00pm: Nap - usually in someone's arms or in his rocker downstairs with everyone
7:45: Bath
8:30pm: Nurse
10:30pm: Nurse and we put him down for the night and wait for him to wake on his own.
2:00am: Usually wakes around this time to nurse
5:00am: Usually wakes around this time to nurse
7:30am: The day starts all over again!
When he wakes up in the middle of the night he goes back down on his own with no problem 9 nights out of 10. That is the biggest difference in he and Anna Lee with their night time sleep. Looking back at her 1 month schedule, she was going around 4-4.5 hours at night but I remember that she always fought being laid back down. It took a little more persuading (singing and patting) to get her back to sleep. He usually falls asleep -more like enters a coma- about 10 minutes into his middle of the night feedings. I think that's why he isn't going as long at night - he rarely will take a full feeding because he can't stay awake.
I've tried all of the tricks of the trade that I can think of to get him to wake up - cold washcloth to the face and feet, tickling him, etc...it doesn't work. The boy is out cold.
Things to know about Mac at 1 month:He's a grunter!! He grunts A LOT. It sounds like he's constantly working on a poop and we always get comments from strangers whenever we're out anywhere. Walking along in Publix, random ladies will stop us to get a peak at the baby, make a remark about how cute (and big he is for his size) then they always say something to effect about how it sounds like he is working on a present for us. ALWAYS.
He doesn't enjoy his carseat. This is a bummer to me. I'm hoping he learns to love it and will nap in it like his big sis.
He's a man of motion. If you want to make him mad or wake him up - stop at a red light or stop to look at something in a store for longer than 5 seconds. Red lights and traffic are 2 of my biggest enemies when we have a baby on board.
He's starting to coo and smile more this week. I'm hoping during the 2nd month we will start to see more of his personality.
He is tummy sleeper. No worries to everyone who just gasped a little - he's not sleeping on his tummy at night but I do let him nap on her bed during the day (where I keep a close eye on him) on his tummy. He sleeps MUCH more soundly and longer when he's on his tummy. At night, he sleeps swaddled in his Miracle Blanket. He usually starts grunting as soon as he is swaddled - shocker. I'm waiting for the day where he can roll over and its kosher to "let" him be a stomach sleeper.
He has good head control and likes to be carried thrown over your shoulder - basically with his belly resting on your shoulder. He also likes to be patted (hard) on his bottom while he's resting up there like a sack of potatoes.
In so many ways it seems like Mac has been in our lives forever...and then in some ways I feel like I was just in the hospital last week.
1 month down! only 6 more to go until the birthday party planning begins.
I'm kidding.
Kind of.

Oh my goodness...Will is a MAJOR grunter too! I think maybe these two were separated at birth or something (except for the schedule thing- Mac seems to be WAY ahead of Will). I mean, they even dress alike!
ReplyDeleteAlso, is that Sir Fidel on his outfit in the first pic? Way to represent Mac! :)
